What Is Reverse Face Search?

How the Catfish Finder Works

Three steps from a profile photo to an answer you can check.

Save Their Photo

Save Their Photo

Save or screenshot a photo from the profile or the chat. A clear, front-facing photo of one person works best, so crop out anyone else.

Search by Face

Search by Face

Facial recognition compares the face with a third-party index of public web pages, including public social media profiles. It matches the face, not the file, so a different photo of the same person can still match.

Compare What You Find

Compare What You Find

Each match shows the image, a confidence score and the page it came from. Check the names, dates and accounts on those pages against what your match has told you.

What a Catfish Check Shows

Where else a face appears on the public web, with a source for every match, and an honest account of what it cannot see.

Catfish Finder face search features visualization

Same Face, Different Name

See whether their photos appear on public profiles or pages under another name, the most common sign of someone using pictures that are not theirs.

Stolen and Stock Photos

Find out whether a personal-looking photo is really a model's portfolio shot, an influencer's post or a picture reused across other fake profiles.

Matches the Face, Not the File

A reverse image search finds copies of one picture. A face search finds the person, so other photos of the same face can turn up too.

A Source for Every Result

Every result links to the page where the face appears, so you can judge it yourself instead of trusting a score.

Private by Design

The person you are checking is never contacted or notified, and uploaded photos are deleted within 24 hours.

Honest About the Limits

Dating-app profiles are visible only inside the app, so no web search can list them. A face search covers the public web, and finding nothing does not prove someone is real.

When to Run a Catfish Check

Catfish tend to follow a pattern. These are the moments a photo check is worth a minute.

Dating Safety

Before a First Date

Check their photos before a first date, so the person who turns up is the person you have been talking to.

Warning Signs

When the Story Doesn't Add Up

They can never video call, their job keeps them abroad, or every photo looks professionally shot. A photo check shows whether the face belongs to someone else.

Scam Prevention

Before Any Money Moves

Romance scammers ask for money, gift cards or crypto once they have your trust. Check whose photos they are using before you send anything.

Catfish Finder FAQ

What a catfish check can show, and what it cannot.

A catfish finder checks whether the photos on a profile belong to the person using them. You upload one photo and a face search looks for the same face on public web pages, so you can see whether it appears somewhere under another name.

No. Most dating-app profiles are shown only to members inside the app, so no web search, ours included, can list them. A face search covers public web pages, such as public social media profiles and sites where photos are reused.

It is a strong warning sign. Catfish often use photos taken from someone else's social media, a model's portfolio or a stock site. Compare the names, dates and accounts on each page, and send no money or personal details until the person can show who they are.

No match is not proof that someone is real. Their photos may simply not be on the public web, or the pictures may never have been published anywhere. Treat it as one check: a live video call and a few details you can confirm independently are stronger evidence than any single search.

They answer different questions. A reverse image search finds copies of the same picture. A face search finds the same face, even in a different photo, which matters when a catfish uses several pictures of one stolen identity. Running both is the most thorough check.

No. Nobody is contacted or notified, and uploaded photos are deleted within 24 hours.

Stop contact, send no money, and report the profile on the app or site where you met. If you have lost money, report it to the police and, in the US, to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. If the stolen photos are yours, you can ask the sites using them to take them down.
